I am trying to figure out if Desmond would know who Michael is. If I recall correctly, in Season 2 Desmond fled the island shortly after the Hatch was opened (when only Kate, Jack and Locke had been inside), and did not return until the last episode the season, after Michael had left with Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley. I don't thinks Desmond would ever have met Michael, only maybe heard about him. So when they met on the freighter Desmond did not know that "Kevin Johnson" was in fact Michael. For all he knows the guy is a janitor.

I think you are correct. Desmond and Michael did not cross paths on the island.

They were on the beach together for a very short time in the S2 finale, because Jack was one of the people who swam out to Desmond's boat, and Michael didn't leave until Jack was with him. However, Desmond probably only glimpsed Michael briefly, certainly not enough to remember him. I would guess that Michael might remember Desmond, but maybe not because he was so preoccupied with the whole screwing the Losties over thing.

He wanted Jack to treat his wound, let them all think that Ben did it, and had let Ben go. Now I'm trying to remember when he actually left and when he got the list of people he was to bring back in return for Walt and an escape.

I don't recall any dialogue between the two before Michael headed off with Jack, Sawyer, Kate and Hurley. I was trying to remember last night if they had actually met. Maybe Desmond saw him or even heard about what he had done in the hatch but they never spoke.

Even if he met Michael before, Desmond lost all of his memory of the island when they came to the boat. Why isn't anyone remembering this? He didn't know who sayid was and now he trusts him only because he helped him get in touch with Peni.

The only connection I remember is the funeral for Ana/Libby, and Des was drunk.

I don't think Des ever interacted with Michael, so I'm pretty sure he would not recognize him. But I'm sure Sayid is going to fill him in on who he is and what all is going on.

In "What Kate Did" Michael contacted "walt" through the computer. in "The Hunting Party" he runs off and Jack etc... follow him.

Michael returns at the end of "S.OS." (I think...I may be wrong, here, and I'm too lazy to look it up).

As per "Three Minutes," Michael was held captive by the others, and given the list and his mission. He returns to camp/the hatch, kills Ana Lucia and Libby, frees Ben, then shoots himself in the arm.

I don't believe we saw Michael and Desmond interacting, but they were around at the same time, for a night or so.

Yes you're correct. Desmond fled the hatch early in that season. This was discussed earlier in another thread.

they were on the beach together for a day or so while sayid hatched his plan to use desmond's boat to circle the island to the other's (fake) camp. so they definitely crossed paths, but remember that desmond was wasted drunk, so he may not recognize michael. surely he heard stories about him though...

Correct. He remembered being on the island - told it to Penny through the phone, and I don't think Daniel or Sayid filled him in about that. Also, he remembered Sayid's name, and they never mentioned it before in the ep ;)
