View Full Version : The Others Story Features new Widmore Storyline
themeangel 03-22-2008, 04:58 AM Have they just thrown the Whole The Other's and Dharma storyline out the Window?
This Season it seems the whole show has gone in a Different direction..
Now we have The People on Widmores Boat to Deal with..
Is the show now just about them surviving the Greedy Widmore Guy who wants the Island all for himself so he can make a buck of the Healing properites..
What will happen to the Other Storyline? Will we ever find out who they really ARE/WERE?
What about Dharma? why did they kill them? what about all the other Island myteries?
Is this just all about The Widmore threat now?
Geez. Why did we have 3 Seasons all about The Others for them just to go 90 degrees in a different direction?
Joshjb 03-22-2008, 09:45 AM Have you seen the 8th episode? Danielle, Alex and Karl are (well, were) heading to the Temple, a Dharma sanctuary, where the Others are now at. I'm sure we'll see the Others again, soon, it's just that with a shortened season, they don't have much time for everything at the moment.
benos 03-22-2008, 10:42 AM Season 4 just started, and episode 1-8. Is most likely about the freighters.
Season 3 was like episode 1-9. And it goes away from the others for a little while, until team Locke, Kate and Saiyd come.
Nevermore 03-22-2008, 11:32 AM Season 4 just started, and episode 1-8. Is most likely about the freighters.
"Just started"? We're now almost 2/3 through the season...

Do you know what show you are watching? Season 1 was about surviving and trying to do something to find rescue. It ended with them opening the hatch and the guys on the raft losing Walt and the raft.
Season 2 shifted focus to The Swan, and subsequently other stations. Then, right after they meet up with other survivors, they meet someone who lives on the island (Introduction of The Others, followed by a night time encounter with more of them soon after). This season was pretty much all about The Swan, as a lot of very significant things happened down there, and then at the end of the season it was destroyed. There was hardly any mention of it after.
Season 3 continued the story of The Others since at the end of 2 they had 3 of the Survivors as prisoners. Season 3 was largely about them and their ongoing conflict with the Survivors. It only makes sense that Season 4 would take off in a new direction. In the direction that Season 3 ended with, which was the idea of new people arriving on the island.
I have no doubts that we will be given more back story on The Others, it will just take time, as with everything else on the show. I don't really see how you can be surprised by the change in direction and lack of mentioning something. How many times have we seen the monster? There's been no hint of it since Left Behind I think. They didn't forget about it, just like with most of the mysteries on the show they will address them in time.
lostalex 04-01-2008, 11:52 AM I'm not surprised at all that the story has shifted away from the others. Think about it, each season (so far) has started off by focusing on a different group -
Season 1 - Fuselage survivors
Season 2 - Tail section survivors
Season 3 - The Others
Season 4 - Freighter crew.
so shifting away from the others seems to just be following the normal line of story telling!!
Also makes me wonder what the last two seasons will focus on! i'm wondering if season six might take us full circle and be the oceanic six/original losties. Not sure who season five could be?! any thoughts?
caforrest2047 04-01-2008, 02:25 PM Season 4 is about the O6 and them getting off the Island, have "faith" people everything will be worked out in the end
Or will it BWAH HA HA

So, TPTB have created a focus-jumping experience for viewers . . . no wonder we feel like Desmond without a Constant with each new season!
caforrest2047 04-05-2008, 02:00 AM Temple, a Dharma sanctuary
Thats a pretty big assumption. I doubt it's a Dharma station, I'd say it's an Others/Natives/Hostiles place
PapaThor 04-05-2008, 04:10 AM Looking at the map Ben showed Danielle, Karl and Alex, it appeared to have a Dharma logo next to it.
And you know it passes the Dharma test: If it looks like a Dharma, walks like a Dharma and quacks like a Dharma, it's a Dharma.

caforrest2047 04-07-2008, 12:30 PM Ok, still think it's a Native thing that Dharma took over, waiting patiently to see it, hope we see it this season.
dejo42 04-07-2008, 01:46 PM They've stated in the podcasts that each season has a main story arc or theme. This season's theme is "who gets off the island and who doesn't". Next season's theme is "why do those who got off the island want to go back?". The final season's theme is "what happens when they go back". The subsequent episodes in each season attempt to fill in the wholes left by previous seasons. If they abandon a story line or direction they abandon it in an obvious manner. Like Nikki and Paolo (sp?).

I really hope so. I've been looking forward to learning more of the history of the island. Introducing The Temple seems like a good time to bring up some of the history, however if it is a Dharma built site that may not be the case.
mom2haylil 04-09-2008, 12:36 PM I think that the decision they made last year to set an end date- unfortunately has put the pressure on them to get to where they want to end the story and I think that they are either going to have to pack a lot into a few episodes or leave out the answers to some of the questions and back stories that they worked so hard to develop in the first place - maybe they wrote to many small mysteries and won't get to them all. I wish that they had decided to end at season 7 not 6 or kept up the 24 episode seasons instead of dropping it down to 16. I just don't think there is enough time to truly unfold all the story.
