Well, looks like Abbadon is a facilitator in much the same way that Brother Monk was for Desmond...pieces are being moved and coerced into place it seems...(<>..<>)

Yeah, what's his angle? I agree with you, UAC, he must be a facilitator, and when he was hiring Naomi and setting up the Fantastic Four, he wasn't really working for Widmore. Or maybe Widmore's agenda isn't what we think it is.......

Abaddon's new apparition reinforces my idea that he is the ferryman of the island. He is a psychopomp....

Or maybe the only Dharman who is still in charge of clearing the island and shutting it all down...? (<>..<>)

Charon? Abaddon fills an an interesting role. It would seem he and Alpert are on opposite side, and probably have been for centuries.

Seems like alot of sides in this thing, and maybe some that never even got into play-did you notice how many bidders there were for The Black Rock's logbook at the auction. Seems like several parties were interested in it and it went for a pretty penny to Widmore...(<>..<>)

Well since his name basically means "keeper of the abyss", it seems to me that it's a possibility that he could in fact be a Dharma undercover who's mission is to clear and close the island. Or, he could be with Widmore and is in charge of cleaning the island for their arrival. Maybe that's why he asks Hurley if any of them are alive. Why? Because I figure either A) the island needs to be cleared of people so nobody is left or trapped during close-down or B) Widmore doesn't want to set up camp and start the whole skirmishing and harrasment by the "new others" thing all over again, which is exactly what ended up doing the DI in to start with.

And of course Richard would want to keep the island open and going. This obviously puts them on opposite sides, and once again we have a game with black and white pieces playing out once again. So Abaddon facilitates Locke's arrival onto the island once it becomes clear that the others can't keep Locke from arriving no matter what they try, and he starts blowing up stuff and fighting the others which would dovetail nicely into what Abaddon is in charge of accomplishing anyway, right?
