View Full Version : Time Differential...
teksmith 05-09-2008, 12:32 AM The rocket came about 30 minutes later than it should.
The docter was killed at night and washed ashore what seemed to be earlier that morning.
The rocket approached the island from above at a large angle from horizontal.
The doctor washed directly ashore on the horizontal.
Franks helicopter leaves the island at night and arrives on the freighter in the middle of the day.
It seems that the way you approach the island has an influence on the relative time.
Any other ideas about what is going on with this?
kansasgal71 05-09-2008, 12:45 AM Did you notice that the helicopter left the freighter at night and arrived on the island at night???? Any significance????
mrain01 05-09-2008, 12:54 AM The rocket demonstrated the island was behind.
The doctor demonstrated the island is ahead.

That's what I got out of it too, which makes no sense. Maybe the island is always in motion (since apparently it can be moved)? Maybe this means the O6 will be able to change things that will have already happened on the island.
Oh heck, I have no idea!
awesomecoolderek 05-09-2008, 01:04 AM Clearly when the helicopter left the ship at the end of episode 11 it reached the island minutes later. Nothing "bad" happened tonight. Still, the whole time difference thing is getting ridiculous... it's not following any kind of rules. Here's a thread I started on the morse code problem:

I imagine Frank actually stayed on the 305 bearing this time.

Exactly, there was no strom to throw 'em off. Still, why did Ben send Michael on bearing 325 if 305 is the "right" one. As far as we know, Michael didn't end up "forwards" or "backwards."
Steph_Bacon 05-09-2008, 01:14 AM I'm glad I'm not the only one having a hard time wrapping my head around the time difference...It really hit me tonight when Sayid left the boat before the doctor was killed and hadn't made it to the island when the doctor's body did...

Actually, we don't know how long it was before Michael and Walt made it to anywhere after they left. My current theory, though, is that certain bearings might take you to a different time and some to a different place.
lockesmithe 05-09-2008, 01:34 AM Wasn't the island morse code scene at night, when there was still daylight on the freighter? Or am I remembering incorrectly?
Flotsam 05-09-2008, 08:35 AM Maybe the Island is moody.

Because Sayid is staying on the appropriate heading, while the body floated wherever the currents took it.

Hmmm, Still confused, but that is one difference between the two.
teksmith 05-09-2008, 12:20 PM I think that the each unique approach taken to the island has an unique affect on time. If you come in the way the doctor did, you get one effect, but if you take the path of the rocket you get a completely different effect.

No, that's how it happened.
