I thought it was interesting that Hurley's dad said that when he was working on the car he felt more like he was "with" Hurley....................we also saw that car and Hurley's dad is his flashback...................maybe the island "knew" about the car and changed the numbers so that Hurley can get back to it (the lottery/numbers/curse is how he got to the island)

If anyone rigged it, it's Cheech. He was all "who, me?" when Hurley asked him, and he believes the numbers bring good luck.
But it could be the island reaching out. I wouldn't have said that a year ago but with all the island's antics this season they could go there.

Well, it was sitting in the garage for 20 years or more (and it sounds like it had a history of not running.) 48K sounds about right.
