i wonder if the incident in the swan was caused by ben moving the island. if so that could have been the mission of the men in the hatch, to keep releasing the Electromagnetism so that their wouldn't be enough power for ben to move the island again.

its a pretty vague theory and i don't know how much even i buy the idea, but it does make me curious, i mean why else would ben have conned locke into destroying the hatch.

Not sure I buy it either, but just to expand a bit on your theory – instead of Ben moving the island years before, maybe the island moving was an unforeseen incident that occurred because of whatever work or experiments they were doing at the Orchid and the build up of electromagnetism which then led to the eventual button pushing.
