That is the first thing I thought of when I saw her! I don't remember her looking so much like Kate, but it seems to be a Lost theme (Alex, Danielle, Kate, and Jack's mom; Juliet, Claire, Claire's mother and aunt, Ben's mom)

Oh, I thought that too--in a big creepy way. Kate looks so much more like Jack's mom than she does her own mom. Claire actually looks like Kate's mom. Weird!

It would definitely make sense. Obviously not the only reason he's attracted her, but it could certainly be a part of it.

One woman I watch Lost with commented on the similarity, so I took a closer look, and saw that the hair, full, high cheekbones, and lips to a lesser extent were pretty similar. Missed out on the eye color.

I think she looks like she has had some work done (which would be in keeping with her social status and situation in life). In profile, you can clearly see that the skin on her cheek bones had been tighten. She had that Janice Dickinson look (but I thought that it was only obvious in profile).

I totally noticed it, considering that I forgot what Kate's real mom had looked liked and for a sec I thought "ooh is that Kate's mom?" until she hugged Jack.

She also looks like me and every other dark-haired, fair skinned, greenish-blue eyed with a heart-shaped face woman in the world and there are A LOT of us. When they cast Veronica Hamel, I don't think she was supposed to show up in more than that two minute scene. She was perfectly cast for that "blue blood"/"stoic" steely air they actually wrote in the WR script, not to resemble anyone... well, anyone but Jack. I'm so glad they brought her back though.

I see what you're saying and yes there are a lot similar types. Maybe it was just late but when Jack kissed his mom at the funeral I thought it was Kate for a second. I always think it's kind of weird when guys date women that look like their mothers.

The actress who played Jack's mom was there to look like Jack, maybe its just a coincidence if she somehow resembles Kate -- which I don't really see.

Aside from being white women and brunettes, no. Just like Juliet and Sarah don't look alike. (Honest, they look totally different and the Ben ploy to reel Jack in with another blonde was kind of stupid.) If Margo were blonde then people would say Jack married Sarah because she reminded him of Mom. If Margo were a redhead they'd say Jack has a crush on Charlotte. There's just a limited number of hair colors out there and it doesn't mean much.
If anyone looks alike, it's Michelle Forbes (the Oceanic rep) and Julie Bowen (Sarah). Different hair color, but the same eyes and cheekbones.

Jackaroo and myself used to joke about this a looonnng time ago. I hope it stays a joke. Although...thinking about the first Jater kiss, and the running away, as though something were off scares me a bit. We also know how much they love the Star Wars thing.

I remember the summer they cast Elizabeth Mitchell the first words out of my mouth were "she looks like Sarah" and then laughed because it was obvious what she was going to used for and then was amazed when I actually turned out to be right because I never am. I used to have a side by side comparison of Sarah and Juliet, where the resemblence is striking, but don't feel like looking for it. Meh........it's a matter of opinion.

As for Jack's mother looking like Kate. The woman was cast way back in season one to resemble Jack and the man married a woman that looked nothing like dear old mom so I'm not sure why this is suddenly suspicious, but I guess it's that nervous twitchiness LOST fans have about them that makes them look for something in everything.

I did a double take when I saw her, she looked so much like Kate. However, when I found out who the actress was, Veronica Hamel who was on Hill Street Blues for us older folks, I was amazed. When she was younger she looked nothing like Kate or how she looks now. Her face was much, much thinner and she looked like a model, incredibly beautiful. The resembance was so striking in the episode last night that I wondered whether or not they "aged" Evangeline to be Jack's mother. Those screen caps make me wonder again. If that was Veronica Hamel last night I didn't recognize her AT ALL and it looked nothing like her. And I'm old enough to remember Hill Street Blues. :biggrin:

They do look an awful lot alike to me. The question is, did they cast Jack's mom to look like Kate because she is Kate, or to give obvious reason why Jack would be attracted to Kate??

While that similarity (at least to me) was obvious, I thought that Claire's Mom was almost a blonde version of Jack's Mom - showing Christian may have been attracted to a basic "type" (build, long hair, etc.). More opposites and what-not.

The weird thing is, their actual features don't look that much alike to me at all. But just something about them overall did in this episode. They were wearing the same colors, and their eye and hair colorings are the same too. And then at the memorial service the camera was on Jack, then on his teary-eyed mom, and then on teary-eyed Kate. It was kinda striking at that time but I dunno if it was intentional at all.

I think they just both screw there eyes up like that when there upset, there is some resemblance but its not uncanny.

I just noticed it in that one scene, when they got off the coast gaurd plane. Jack's Mom had her hands over the bottom part of her face. It was a new angled shot. It seemed intended to almost throw you off into thinking it was a quick flash/warp into a new scene, with a much older Kate. It really wowed me. Check it out. I don't think a screen cap would do. You'd have to watch that section, just as they get off the plane. In other scenes, she did not strike me to resemble Kate at all. But that one time was weird. I am certain it was intended. A real LOST moment.
