What is up with this? I thought that it was John Latham in the obit.

Ahhhhh, good 'ol TPTB, purposely planting that article to throw us off. I'm worried the person in the coffin is someone I don't want to be on there.

and on a random note, sumbody predicted a Sayid vs Keamy death battle and got their wish

That's the question...does this change who we feel is in the coffin now? I still think it's Michael (if I had to guess and pick someone that we know) but it could now be someone that we have not met yet. It has been 3 years off island, as Kate mentions.

GREAT scene to start the season 4 finale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...so much for Bentham=Michael...only took 2 minutes to find that out.

Crazy episode so far.

Ya...It's someone that knows the real story and told it to Walt.

I have a feeling we are going to find out who Bentham is by the end of this Episode...they would hang us out for 2 years right??????

Yeah but you read spoilers!;)

If it is him, I'll be disappointed, it makes no sense.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that after hearing the convo between Walt and Hurley, Benthem is most certainly NOT Michael.

Locke in the Box was my own idea and you know it! Mr. me and my BIG....er.... TV! LOL!

No...but it always seemed possible that somehow it was Ben as it seemed at the time that Jack had lost his last chance to find the island again...

Yep, you've been calling it since TTLG. I just had to brow beat you a little!;)

If it is him, and we don't know yet for sure, (I still have 45 minutes to hope not!!) Good guess!

I think Jeremy BENtham is Ben.

Sun blames Ben for Jin's death and some how is responsible for his death.

That's what I hope, but I'm getting more worried it's not, with every passing minute.

It's the Box man!!! Last time Jack sees him he is in yet another Box...the Orchid elevator!!
Locke can travel to and from the Island somehow...like Ben did when he was the Leader!
He's trying to get the O6 to go back! It's gotta be Locke!

Good call addie!

Actually, it was spoiled for me. Someone from Halifax came into another thread where I was posting about who was in the coffin and blew it for us. It was only 20 minutes into the reair of Part 1, and she said she had just watched it. How can Halifax watch the whole show but 8 pmET/7pmCT. I mean how unfair is that. Thanks to her she blew that ending for me. Don't know if it would have mattered much though, I just don't like Locke being in the coffin.

People were talking about this while the episode was still going on? And then are upset because they were spoiled? I don't get that. Canadians get to watch the show an hour earlier than the east coast in the US. They'd be 2 hours ahead if CTV was not airing the pop up video version ABC repackaged.

So anyway, about the thread title: Did the name in the obit change since TTLG? Is that the question?

I think it's pretty interesting. Based on Ben's moving the island and his statement that once the person moves it they can never go back, then the discussion that some pretty bad stuff happened on the island, it must have really been some bad stuff to get Locke to leave and try to get the others back. Locke is dead set against leaving, so you know it has to be big to get him off the island.

Based on what I've seen the final seasons should be pretty fantastic.

I was never able to make out what the name was. I had read some good guesses but had never seen confirmation of the name. Did I miss it somewhere?

Totally agree about Locke. Has to be something pretty monumental.

But what do you mean "seasons"? I thought there was just one more season after S4?

All of the screen caps that I saw (and even a "supposed" script transcript) said John Latham. I was surprised to hear Jeremy Bentham. The screen caps were in the "who's in the coffin" thread from TTLG...it's about one million pages long last I checked tho...guess it really doesn't matter now.

REALLY glad that I wasn't spoiled for this one...I freaked when I saw dead Locke. I hope going back to the island does revive him somehow!

Yeah, there was a poll of who was in the casket. People were discussing it at 720pm CT, so we didn't know who was in the coffin yet. The person from Halifax came on and told us to stop debating because it was Locke, and she had just finished watching the show. So we don't have a right to be upset? If she knew we were discussing who we thought would be in the casket, she didn't need to come on and tell us. It wasn't a thread discussing who WAS IN the coffin, it was a thread discussing who we THOUGHT WAS IN the coffin.

SOURCE (http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Coffin_%28Through_the_Looking_Glass%29)

Although the obituary shown in "Through the Looking Glass" names the deceased as Jo[.. ..]antham who died in "The Tower" (Apartments?) on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, it has been stated by the producers that the obit will be rewritten for a later show, and the one in "Through the Looking Glass" should be considered a prop only.

I remember there being some discussion about it possibly being last name of Bentham, can't remember the first name though. Someone way back when had done some reseach on some philosopher with the last name of Bentham I think. So not a huge shock, but the resounding opinion was that it was John Latham, or Lantham.

I think there could have been some purposefully misleading information out there though.

That sux that it was spoiled for you!

I think it being Locke is perfect!! Did you read my thread about "Locke on A Hero's Journey" in the General Theory section? One of the later stages is called "resurrection"! I bet Locke will have to be brought back to life somehow....just not sure if that means brought back like Christian and Charlie or is Locke really "resurrected"?

Locke became Ben on the Island at least as far as his role which means he knew how to come and go like Ben. I bet he was killed and it was made to look like suicide.

I think so too...misleading me to think that the black artist, John Latham, was of course...Michael.

I'm glad they duped me tho because that ending kicked azz!

Yeah, that sucks, and I'm assuming you reported the person. If the mods think it is a problem, they'll get an infraction of some sort. Unfortunately, there is always going to be someone who wants to ruin it for other people, which is why it is rarely safe to be on the boards after the show has aired in some timezones. After getting unwittingly spoiled on the FF for TTLG last year, I stayed off the boards (except for chit chat) for the last week and a half, and I know many others did the same. Hope the ep wasn't totally ruined for you.
