I was thinking if the freighter blows up and the island was moved what happens to the people on the motorboat? There is no one on there of importance so it wouldn't matter.

Well, if Jin dove off the boat I imagine he could get picked up by the zodiac. We know you can hit the shipping lanes, and with the island now gone that should be easier. The only thing is that we've seen flash-forwards but no mention of any of these people so where could they be or have been all this time if they did make it? :ufo:

Based on the shot of the open ocean after the island goes pop and the fact that the heli peeps were floating around for ages I was assuming the boat went with the island.

Remember that Keamy wasn't going to do that until Smokie attacked. Benry sent Smokie. Could that have been part of the "big plan?" (even though Alex's death was not in the plan)

The big question is still why did Widmore want Ben in the first place... just to tell him that he is going to get the island back? Widmore goes to all the trouble with Keamy et al and then he tells Ben that the island was and will be his again. Huh?

Because he wanted Ben under control, a prisoner, if you will. Then Ben would stop interfering in Widmore's plans. But as long as Ben is out there on the loose he will always be trying to foil Widmore it seems. I guess we have to think of him a little as Benjamin Bourne. Gone rogue and making things tough for Widmore et.al.
