Was anyone else surprised that Sawyer got on the helicopter? I thought he said he wanted to stay on the island.

My take was that it all happened so quickly that he just jumped on with everyone else. Plus, he was so happy to see Kate, he'd probably follow her anywhere.

No knowing for sure, I kind of figured he'd be the extra weight. He was.

I kind of thought that he'd stay behind to look for Claire no matter what, but I liked how he jumped off the helicopter to save everyone, awe.

I think Sawyer's character has come a long way in maturing. Especially since killing the real "Sawyer". I was in tears watching that scene. I said you know years back on the show Sawyer probably would have said about throwing Hurley off, but he has matured and instead gave up his spot and jumped. I knew he wasn't dead and the tears were just out of such .....pride, I think that's what it was. haha

No - because I was already spoiled to that information. (had to make sure he was alive for next season)

But thinking about the character and his growth and development from the point he said, "Same thing I've always done Kate, survivin'", I could see him boarding that plane. He had decided that life was worth living after all and he could do it off the Island. But I was also not surprised when he stayed behind because that was more of the character development he was going through.

Sawyer is the anti-hero. Yes, he has matured and when he paused he was thinking of Hurley as being the biggest load. Since he really didn't want to leave the island well ...

I was really happy when Sawyer turned up on the beach with Juliet. I just love that guy!! He sure picks some crazy times to go all hero on us though.

Yeah, but wasn't his line upon coming up onto the beach great? "Nice day for a swim." Like nothing was out of the ordinary.

The scene with Juliet and Sawyer was so good. I liked all of his scenes in this episode! Including the one where he and Hurley talk about Claire. I really do believe that his interactions with Claire and Aaron led him to that place where he was able to divulge the information about Clementine to Kate! Even if he wasn't going home he needed to make sure Clementine was looked after.

I believe he told Locke he was sorry he ever went with him, and was headed back to the beach. I assumed his plan was to leave after that - as by that point, it appeared Locke's wasn't the safest place to be, and he's all about the "survivin'" . . . . that is until tonight, when he risked just that to save everyone on the helicopter.

I certainly don't want to turn this into a Jack bash thread, because I really do like Jack. However, this scene really made his comments to Kate in their big fight, seem very unnecessary and mean.

He was so mad at her for doing a favor for Sawyer, and goes on to say that Sawyer "chose" to stay. It was obvious that Sawyer "chose" to stay, so that they (Jack and Kate) could get away safely! He had to know that the favor Kate was referring to was what Sawyer whispered in her ear before jumping, kind of a last wish before jumping to an unknown fate to save his friends. I don't know, the whole thing just made me mad for a minute, seemed like a very ungrateful thing to say. Maybe it was just the alcohol and jealousy talking?

I thought it was a great scene though. The old Sawyer would never have jumped, instead he'd have made some Hurley/Jabba comment and suggested that he was the problem. The new Sawyer has much man love for Hurley and was only thinking of getting him and the other 5 to safety. Gotta love it!

I really wanted to see how Sawyer thought through the whole, "That WAS our boat thing." Is he thinking that Kate and the rest are dead? Probably. He's going to be eaten up by that for a long time. That HE survived and they didn't, even after he jumped in an effort to get them to safety.

I didn’t think that I could love Sawyer anymore than I already did but last night... Well, let’s just say that I can! :D
It's in time of real danger the TRUE heroes step up!

I hope he won't blame himself. Sawyer has come such a long way from the first time we saw him and he just made a full transition to hero. When the times get rough, he does what needs to be done.

Answering your first question, deeannek, I think Sawyer wanted to stay on the island when they had roofs over their heads and he believed Kate would stay with him. Now all of that's gone, there's crazyness all around and he obviously wants to get away from it. He even says "Lets go Freckles, I'm sick of this rock" or something similar when he's helping Kate get on the chopper.

I love the person Sawyer is becoming but I too wonder if he will have survivors guilt over the explosion of the freighter. Funny how Sawyer has always been all about surviving and then he does this one selfless act ( jumping out of the helicopter to lighten the load) and from his perspective probably thinks he got everyone killed. I wonder what that will do to him?

Hey, in the episode from season 1 where Sawyer comes outta the water and talks to Kate, does he say something about swimming then too? Something really similar to what he said in this ep? I think I might be making it up in my head but I just wanna check... :)

I have the feeling Sawyer is going to suffer next season. I can imagine him wanting to kill the one who's responsible for all this because he believes his friends are dead.

Sawyer will rock next season, he will be an island warrior no matter what. Even if it is dark. That's okay.

i just LOVE the hurley/sawyer friendship. the one guy that you can always count on the be nice and the one guy that you can normally count on to be snarky and selfish becoming best friends. it makes me so happy. i have always loved sawyer and i love the person he has become. what did he even have time to tell kate? i forget, did she know yet that sawyer was the runaway father to cassidy's daughter? if not, i wonder when she makes that connection.
