Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!
Not Locke!!

Locke is Lost's version of Jesus. He's ultimately in the right, but people don't understand him, they hate him, he suffers greatly, dies and is reborn. At the last moment in the episode, I nearly had a heart attack to see that it was Locke in the coffin. Way back at the end of Season 3, my two guesses were Locke and Ben - based solely on the fact that it wouldn't be a shock if the body in the coffin was anybody else - so once Michael was blown up (we all assumed it was him in the coffin) and Ben appeared behind Jack in the funeral parlor, my heart sank, but I remained disbelieving, thinking it could possibly be Desmond for no good reason.

But Locke dead? It can't be. This is the worst, most horrible, terrible, impossible, heinous thing that could possibly happen in all of Lost. Kill Hurley, kill Claire, kill Aaron, kill Desmond or Penny before they reunite, all that put together isn't as bad as Locke dying. But I'm no longer distraught -- Locke's going to come back to life just like Christian. That'd be a double mind**** -- first convince us that Lost's golden child John Lock is dead, then bring him back to life and laugh at our tears. Man, Lost's writers are meanies.

But to everyone saying that Desmond and Penny is over, you're forgetting two things. First, Carlton and Damon said that Desmond and Penny's story is one deeply involved in the overall mythology of the show, that their relationship will be important to the show right to the very end, plus you forget that Ben intends to find and kill Penny. Their story is far from over.

You do realize that Locke is dead 3 years in the future, right? He will still be there on the island, wherever that is, next season.

Yes, I realize that his expiration date is still three years off in Islandtime, but the fact is that Locke is going to die in the show is still crushing, because it means that ultimately, he's going to fail. I want him to succeed in his spiritual journey so much, but if he dies, he's failed. Unless of course he either comes back to life, or he died happily after completing his spiritual journey, but his corpse seemed pretty miserable-faced and the episode hinted that Locke's death was anything but peaceful and happy.

Yeah, that "Bygones" moment where standing and not giving Claire and Sawyer shelter from the bullets= Jack trying to kill HIM for all the crazy :censored: he's pulled and trying to keep them on the Island was very Jesus-like.

I was also very upset about the whole Locke in the coffin thing till i realized that Locke told Jack the island was a place "miracles happened" and jack just shrugging it off. What better way to prove to Jack that the Island does cause miracles then by returning Locke to the Island and having him come back to life?

That was a shocker. Considering the Island can stop people from dying, it didn't seem to want to extend that favor to John Locke anymore.

What did Locke mean by 'bad things'?? Did he come to disagree with the Island's politics and lose its 'favor'? Did he fail as a leader? Did he fail because the O6 had to be there for things to "work"?

Quite an interesting mystery they left for us this time.

As to Locke's "crimes" - it still amazes me people see things so black and white. The writers have always strived to show that the characters are constantly trying to balance both sides of things, and that sometimes they'll do awful things, and other times they're playing the part of the hero. Who knows which side of the balance Locke will be on by the end of the show. He's done a lot of crap, but with good intentions, just like a certain doctor whose decisions don't always work out. But they're both trying the best they can.

I thought it was sad that John "died alone" - and the rest of the O6 are on their way to the same fate if they don't come back together.
