Anyone else think that the Kate/Ben scenes were pretty odd?

Kate sees Ben first and is pretty startled to see him and stares at him when she is 'being chased'. Sure thats find, I can go along with that.

Then they are plopped down together when the shooting begins and Ben says something like "Stay down Kate."

Then when Kate starts running she says "Follow me Ben"

This may be nothing, but did anyone else find that extremely odd that they were talking that way to each other or is it just me?

It would have been odd if it weren't for the fact that Sayid & Kate were in on the plan that Richard, et al. had to get Ben out of there.

Yeah that is true, he still seemed somewhat protective of Kate though. This coming from the guy who killed a whole town basically and will go on to destroy everyone on a boat.

Yup. Ben must be Kate's real father.

I'm partly joking, but I do totally agree that it seems like there's always been something weird between the two of them, and not in a romantic way.

In the last scene, when Jack tells Ben how Kate thinks he's crazy, Ben quickly says something like "oh I think I can help with that." Like he has some edge with Kate.

I still think Richard and co. were purposely trying to run into Kate and Sayid on the way to rescuing Ben. And Richard gave Kate such a creepy look.

Ben is a smart guy. I'm sure he picked up on the fact that Kate was a decoy - especially after she stared him down - and he knew that she could lead him safely back to his people.

Didn't you catch the look Kate gave Ben as she knelt beside him? I thought it was beautifully done - sort of a wink/smile.

It's never been explained what happened when Ben and Kate had breakfast together. I think there's something we don't know about with Ben/Kate's relationship. Notice how Kate basically asks Ben if it's OK for them to leave the island "So we can go, leave the island?" That's very weird...it's like she wants approval or permission.

Yes! I thought that too. I have always thought that Ben was holding something over Kate's head ever since the breakfast on the beach scene. She seemed very surprised when he said she could leave the island.

If you think about it Ben has now offered something to all the O6 (except maybe Hurley and Sun) to sway them to his side.

Kate:
We have the beach scene that 'hotncmom' eluded to then the promise to leave the Island.

Sayid:
Find whatsername's killer(s).

Jack:
Get Kate back to the Island (and to get Kate to talk to Jack).

Are there interactions I'm missing? i.e. Hurley and Sun?

I just finished watching it and it was Kate who said "Ben, stay close .. Run!" -- protecting him because that's the mission. She did that because the Others asked them to, just like when Sayid attacked Keamy.
That scene was AWESOME.:thumbup1:

But I also find it odd when Ben said "I can do something about that", pertaining to Kate. Hmmmm ..

You know, the more I think about it, the Kate/Ben interaction almost HAS to have some significance, merely because it is so contrived. Think about it... why was the plan to have Kate run out of the jungle and pretty much WARN the enemy that Ben's people were coming? Why not just sneak up on them anyway? Answer: TPTB wanted Kate and Ben to interact here for some reason. They wanted Ben to ask her to cut him free, and to show that she acknowledged the irony of the situation. It's even more telling that he addresses only her, not her AND Sayid, when he says they can go.

Maybe Kate's going to turn out to have some ties to either Ben or Annie or the Others. Or maybe it was just to show a progression in her willingness to be his accomplice.

Eyris, ITA with the fact that there MUST be a significance to the interaction. Kate/Ben scenes are so few and far between, and they are ALWAYS odd. They fact that they were kind of eyeballing each other while they probably should've been keeping their eyes glued to the men with guns is weird enough. Having Kate cut Ben free, and the look she gave when he asked, was PRICELESS.

but the cherry on top was Ben telling Jack that he could 'help' with the fact that Kate wouldn't talk to Jack anymore... that really gave me the creeps. Ben has always shown this kind of weird fondness for Kate. when she was locked in the cages, while Ben was dying from the tumor and should have been completely focused on getting Jack to do the surgery, he was shown more than once to be watching the cages. When Kate lifted the walkie from Jack, Ben just looks on with a faint smile and his comment later is 'At least someone knows what they're doing'. and that's not to mention the special treatment after capture, the shower, the dress, the vacation breakfast with real food and all that.

But yeah.... this was what, only the SECOND time we've seen them speak to each other?
