While watching tonights episode I noticed a parallel.

In White Rabbit, Jack's mother told him to bring his father's body back home. In tonights episode Ben told Jack to bring Locke's body back to the island.

I don't think Jack was ever supposed to retrieve Christian's body and I don't think he is supposed to take Locke's body back to the island.

Ok, this may sound strange but please hear me out.....

When Jack brought his "dead" father to the island, Christian disappeared from the coffin and then began to traipse around the island as if he were still alive. Does the island have the power to raise the dead???

WILD THEORY:

The warning from Charlie to Jack about "you're not supposed to raise him" may not be referring to Aaron. What if it refers to "raising" Locke from the dead???? :eek2:

Let the bashing and ripping begin ....... :D

That is just warped enough to possibly be true. I like it. Would you like my spare flame-proof suit?;)

That's interesting, LiL. In any case, I always take the time to read and regard your posts as possibly being great catches. ;)

I do very much wonder about Locke's fortune going back to the island postmortem. Though, you should read Wikipedia's file on Jeremy Bentham. The Auto-icon bit, specifically. That seems likely to be John's new purpose. Very odd...

Also, it's really interesting how we've got several questions as to the meaning of the word "raised", in different contexts (i.e. the thread about what Claire meant when she talked to Kate in the dream)

Awwwwww, thanks Charlie!

I agree with you that there are many meanings to the word "raised" and you will notice that same thing with many other words in the script. In interviews, members of the cast have mentioned that they are instructed that there is NO ad-libbing, that the wording has to be EXACT.

TPTB has even said that they agonize over the precise wording and that several comments can have completely different meanings if looked at in a different context.

So, just as the word "LOST" can mean a multitude of things, so can many other words in the LOST script. It's fun to go back and re-read the scripts, knowing what we know now, and see how prophetic and/or freaky some of the wording is. ;)

There is another way to look at it though. Jack's mother told him to bring Christian's body home and it ended up on the island. Ben tells Jack to bring Locke/Bentham's body back to the island which is technically "home" for both Ben and Locke/Bentham. Home and island may be one and the same so perhaps Jack IS meant to do what Ben wants him to do

I have to say, I love the title of this thread.

Jack's so dutiful, of course Ben would put the onus on him to take Locke's body back, huh.
Keep in mind that Margo didn't know that Christian was dead - she just wanted Jack to find him and convince him to come home. But it is an interesting parallel that he is once again faced with transporting a body. Somehow I don't think it will involve convincing a gate agent to allow the casket onto a commercial airliner.

What's interesting about the island and the ghosts/apparitions of the dead is that only people whose bodies are on the island have appeared to waking Losties: Christian and Yemi. I wouldn't count Hurley's "Dave" since he was a prior "imaginary friend" or delusion from his mental illness, nor Walt since he seems to have mind-over-matter powers of his own.

So maybe indeed Locke's body needs to be on the island so that his apparition can continue to "lead" the Others or take on Jacob's role or something else freaky like that.

I think "raising him" refers to raising Jacob from the dead...
